What is your opinion on Google, Microsoft and others?

Google, Facebook and Instagram are very smart but this is part of the big deception. The days are evil and truth will be hard to find. Ester and I trust Yahoo, Microsoft, Twitter and a number of smaller companies. 

why do we think in terms of "what's it worth to me?"

That must be the value or attitude that rubbed off from relentless advertisements on the internet, radio, TV and so on.

It is not the right way, that is to say, the everlasting or eternally valued way. The Holy Bible says in Matthew 6 verse 19-21

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
